A subsidiary of Tata Steel, Tata Metaliks Limited, has its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Kharagpur, West Bengal, India, which produces the finest quality eFee-pig iron and Ductura- ductile iron pipes in India. The plant's annual hot metal production capacity is 6 Lt, of which 2.55 Lt per annum is the value added into ductile iron pipes and 3.45 Lt per annum is cast into pig iron.

    History Timeline

    Starting in 1990 with Pig Iron as our only product in West Bengal, our story has always been about growth – from PI to Ductile Iron pipes and onwards. TML stands behind our expertise and experience especially against the backdrop of a financial crisis, shutting down a plant, and technological revolutions.

    Today, Tata Metaliks is one of the biggest PI (foundry garde) & DIP manufacturers globally. We achieved this by focusing on creating sustainable value by providing industry-leading products and solutions to our customers. We strive to improve the future for our customers, shareholders, and communities by becoming one of the world's most efficient and innovative companies.

  • 1990-07

    Capacity building

    Know our story

    1990-1992

    The company was incorporated on 10th October, 1990 as Tata Korf Metal West Bengal, and soon the construction of the plant commenced at Kharagpur. Tata Korf Metal West Bengal was renamed as Tata Metaliks on 16th January 1992.

    1994

    The plant was commissioned in 1994 with a production capacity of 0.9 LTPA of hot metal per year

    2005

    In 2005, a second mini blast furnace (MBF) was commissioned, which increased the installed capacity to 3.45 LTPA.

    2006

    During 2006, Tata Metaliks bought a Pig Iron (PI) plant in Redi, Maharashtra, which increased the installed capacity to 6.5 LTPA.

    2007

    The company entered into a joint venture with Kubota corporation of Japan in 2007, to make a foray into the manufacturing of Ductile Iron Pipes.

    Enhancing resilience

    Know our story

    2008

    Amid a severe global financial crisis of 2008, the company booked mark-to-market losses in raw materials and finished goods.

     

    2009

    A Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) plant was commissioned in 2009 at Kharagpur with a capacity of 1 LTPA.

     

    2011

    The company decided to shut down its plant at Redi, Maharashtra in 2011.

    Consolidation drive & Turnaround period

    In 2013, the Ductile Iron Pipe business became a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Metaliks, and a sinter plant was also commissioned.

     

    2014

    The company improved and optimized the manufacturing process parameters of DI pipe production.

  • 2016-17

    Value - led transformation

    Know our story

    2016-2017

    Tata Metaliks DI Pipes ltd. amalgamated with Tata Metaliks ltd. The company expanded the capacity of the DI pipe plant from 1.3 LTPA to 1.8 LTPA. The company also installed a coke plant with a capacity of 1.2 LTPA. A 10 MW captive power plant was commissioned and mini-blast furnace-1 (MBF-1) was upgraded.

    Growing sustainably

    2018-2022

    A pulverized coal injection plant (PCI) was commissioned. DI pipe expansion, coke plant expansion, new oxygen plant and 15 MW captive power plant installation was started. The company also commenced on its journey of digital transformation.
