Sustainability
Report 04-05
For us at Tata Metaliks, sustainability means
doing all that is directly and indirectly affecting
our operations in a manner that is superior to the
prevalent standards and norms. We believe in a journey
to aspire "Uttam Se Sarvottam" in all facets
of our business. Our third report on Corporate Sustainability
will reveal our continuing effort in the journey towards
the long-term sustainability of our business. We must
innovate to find solutions for our customers; we must
remain profitable to enhance our ability to invest
in future and reward our stakeholders; we must add
value to the community as an extension of our prosperity.
Our vision of "Reaching
Tomorrow First" aims at success encompassing
balanced value creation for all our stakeholders.
The Company undertakes this most effectively not by
achieving set targets but by creating benchmarks.
With the deployment of the latest technological interventions,
the Company has enhanced its installed capacity to
obtain economy of scale and provide better service
to the customers' needs. Their undying and ever-strengthening
trust in our volume and value-led growth has transformed
us from a product manufacturer to a solution provider,
from a vendor to a partner, which, in turn, helps
our customers streamline their processes.
Our Commitment to
the Stakeholders is deployed through leadership guideline
for creating and balancing value for stakeholders,
which works on following five principles:
Keeping in line with the necessity of a corporate
house to shoulder social responsibility, we have identified the same with our group
purpose of serving the community and giving back to nature and society what has been
harnessed from them.
Having thus espoused the philosophy of
sustainable development, the Company's operations are now interlinked with the progress of
the organisation, the health of the environment and the welfare of the people.
Our Focus in the Reporting Year
-
In our earlier
report, we presented our modus operandi from the
concept of "Reduce, Recycle, Restore, Reuse"
as per the guidelines laid by ISO 14001:1996,
OHSAS 18000 and the SHE Pillar of Total Productive
Maintenance (TPM). Since then, we have been emphatically
focussing on achieving Zero spillage near machines,
Zero loss philosophy, and measures for water conservation
and carbon emission control.

-
We have not just embarked on
expanding and building new capacities but have
also taken all necessary measures to improve and
extract the maximum from the existing capacity.
-
We made rapid strides in consolidating
our presence in the national and international
market.
-
The Company rationalised its
raw material procurement costs by spotting structural
shifts early and consuming a blend of high-ash
and low-ash coal as a replacement of high-cost
coke.
-
Our strict compliance to the
norms stipulated at the national, the state and
our own organisational levels and our expanded
geographical footprint from eight to fourteen
countries has provided us the incentive to follow
the international standards for noise pollution
control and other hazardous gas emission control.
About
the Sustainability Report 04-05
This report has been prepared in accordance with the 2002 GRI
Guidelines. It represents a balanced and reasonable presentation of our organisation's
economic, environmental, and social performance.
In the reporting year 2004-05, we improved our
profitability by strengthening the financials and augmenting our internal efficiencies. We
recorded a significant increase in our retained earnings, which helped us in ploughing
back the funds for future expansion programmes and for strengthening the community
development infrastructure.
Our attempts in reduction of coke consumption,
deployment of renewable energy sources, and optimised use of recyclable waste have helped
us make the work atmosphere non-hazardous and worker-friendly.
The Company operates within the stipulated
norms for the emission of pollutants and the like matters. We abide by the regulatory
compliance not for its own sake but the need to imbibe the necessary policies.
We reach out to the community by way of
providing and duly maintaining the civic amenities, arranging for health check-up camps
and literacy programmes, training women in vocational activities, organising drivers'
training for unemployed youth.
We are constantly engaged in our sojourn from
excellence whereby we keep crossing milestones and raising industry benchmarks. We invite
our stakeholders' comments and suggestions for any further improvement at the following
